Tips and Tricks on how to Avoid a "Tattoo Fail"!

Recently, I saw a post of a picture of a tattoo collectors "Tattoo Fail" on  social media, which was preceded with all kinds of jokes, laughter and I think even a meme or two. Now all of a sudden, this guy is an internet sensation thanks to his cruel friend that shared the photo and the misspelled phrase on his calf! While some of the comments were funny, I couldn't help but feel for the guy and think about  what he was going to do to fix this permanent "Tattoo Fail". Then my thoughts and heart wondered  about some of the double mastectomy cancer survivors that are getting 3-D Nipple and Areola realistic tattoos. Some of these women are getting tattooed by Surgeons that are not familiar with tattooing, while other women are trusting tattoo artist, who can only see dollar signs and are totally not aware of the technique and skill required for success. Now I get that everyone has a bad day and  tattoo artists' are NO exception to that rule. I just feel like that there are some steps that we can take to ensure a good tattoo.
While now your in a rush to go get your tattoo, or to have it removed, repaired or altered , you should totally take a moment to get your bearings and research properly the artist that you are going to approach to do your procedure. Clients that take their time choosing their artist to either create, cover-up or remove their tattoos have a much better experience and a successful result.

Here is my best advice I have for all the tattoo enthusiast looking for the perfect tattoo:

  • Spellcheck thoroughly before putting on your stencil. The tattoo artist could be focused on the overall design and all of the other aspects of tattooing a bleeding canvas.
  • Research your artist and the studio to ensure their level of skill is appropriate for the procedure
  • Know that the dates that you are permanently tattooing on your body are correct
  • Check and make sure that your artist and studio is licensed and insured
  • AVOID the "Kitchen Magician"
If you follow these simple tips, you will have " no regerts" when you finally get your tattoo!

Disclaimer: None of these tattoos were done at Steel and Ink Studio. I simply googled "Tattoo Fails".

Spring is approaching and Steel & Ink Tattoo Studio STL MO, have some tips to help keep your tattoos from fading.

Roughly 45 million people in the United States have at least one tattoo, according to the FDA.

As more of those original young tattoo collectors attain seniority, it's not uncommon to see grandparents, great-grandparents with intricate masterpieces on their anatomy.

So now your in the studio hearing all the tattoo machines buzzing. You have worked with your tattoo artist to create a meaningful piece of artwork that you are willing to commit to forever, and anxious to wear with pride.

A really important aspect of getting tattooed is how it will age. As your tattoo heals and ages the ink will spread under the dermis in the subcutaneous and slightly alter the look of your tattoo. Tattoos will fade overtime no matter what, but the sun's ultraviolet rays will cause them to fade quicker. Other factors that can contribute to tattoos fading is the way the you heal your tattoo. It is important to know how your body heals and to listen to your tattoo artist' aftercare instructions.

To prevent tattoos from dulling, it is necessary to wear sunblock on your tattoos. It is also recommended to use a moisturizer every day to prevent the skin from drying out. Wearing proper clothing that covers the tattoos is an important way to protect tattoos and keep them from fading; darker and tightly woven fabrics are ideal and offer the most protection.

Tattoos, Culture, Art, Medical...THERAPY?

What was considered to be delinquent behavior is now considered a genuine experience by popular culture. It is also considered to be an acceptable means of expression and commitment. Society has changed and quite rapidly.

On a nice day in just about any public place, one can spot a tattoo about every five minutes, from the business man who had a portrait of his daughter put on him, to a young girl with a butterfly on her ankle and even people with extensive tattoo coverage. What is even more interesting is the rise in the number of people who are heavily tattooed and that they come from all different backgrounds. It seems acceptable for a person now to mark their body with something that means something. With all conventional means of remembering something expended, the tattoo is here and has taken its place.
Tattoos have become therapy, they have become solutions to making people feel better about themselves. Chris Pfouts, the editor of "International Tattoo" magazine said "Many, many people get tattooed at low points in their lives, and the work is therapeutic that way. They feel boxed in, jammed up, unable to force a change anywhere in their lives- so they change the one thing they can for certain, their skin. This is one of the few times when tattooing flips its usual role. In other cases, people are taking what's inside of them, their pain or happiness, and putting it on the outside. Getting tattooed as a last resort method of change takes what is outside- resistance, barriers - and possibly brings it inside, cuts it down to a size where it can be handled and overcome (4)." People have found this in tattooing and because of this it is becoming more and more accepted as more and more people are getting tattooed.
People get tattoos when they are on vacation with loved ones to remember the moment forever or to mark a moment in their life when something monumental has happened to them. In a world of artificial amusement and products, many people are looking for a genuine experience.

Also, increasing numbers of people who have serious medical conditions, such as diabetes, are turning to tattooing to identify themselves on the chance a health emergency leaves them unable to communicate, says Saleh Aldasouqi, a diabetes expert from Cape Girardeau, Mo., who will present a report on the topic Friday in Houston at the annual meeting of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.

Whatever the reason  Memories, Self Expression , Therapy, Medical or you simply just loved getting tattooed. It is important to talk with your tattoo artist and make sure that there is good communication about the tattoo and the placement. Steel and Ink  Tattoo and Body Piercing Studio of St.Louis Mo gives FREE consultations to every client to ensure that you understand the process of tattooing and we understand exactly what you are wanting.
